The Cause for Complaining vs Effective Action and Accomplishment

What is the real cause people use to complain instead of taking action about anything?

When we dream of abundance, friendship, health, happiness, or romance, we seldom wonder how it affects our best interest or anyone else. When we dream of a specific employer, deadline, diet of the month, specific dollar amount, specific love interest, or specific house, we contradict ourselves frequently and may become stuck with an outcome. There are at least five levels of ‘responsibility’ but if you are stuck in one becomingcomplaining lets you pass the blame elsewhere.

You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of. – Jim Rohn

‘Drive to the light’ is how racecar drivers operate at over 200mph. Keep your eye on the horizon, the end general enough that filling in the between with specifics is how to get there, not the final goal. Each intermediate goal is a temporary pit stop along the way, a place to fill up ones energy reserve on the accomplishment and set off as soon as possible for the horizon. Once in motion toward the light, a new intermediate goal will appear that takes you closer. Keep all your goals safe, if you share them with anyone; first KNOW they will help energize you on the way or keep them secret. The best rule, share and declare only accomplished goals publically.

Just as your car runs more smoothly and requires less energy to go faster and farther when the wheels are in perfect alignment, you perform better when your thoughts, feelings, emotions, goals, and values are in balance. – Brian Tracy [and in alignment!]

awareness7We succeed and fail based on our ability to create and live by powerful distinctions. If you only grok ‘picture’ but not ‘window’ or ‘door’ your escape from the rooms you find yourself in would be impossible. If you don’t know the difference between mushrooms and toadstools, you will be sick [or worse] often.   We defend our points of view, our distinctions often to our death or others. Principles do not change but distinctions are something you can take on or put down, like a pair of special glasses, to see if what is there is really there or is just your ‘prescription’ altering the view.

The distinction between the past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion. – Albert Einstein

There are perhaps at least four ‘domains’ of knowing or knowledge. There is all that you know and there is all that you don’t know. Being more accurate, there is all that you know that you know and we tend to live comfortably within those myths and beliefs. There is what you know you don’t know and we are trained to find a doctor or some other expert to solve what we know we don’t know. I hope their knowing what they know is not mostly myth. [Global warming for example] Our direct source of all knowing is an unimaginably large place for what we don’t know that we don’t know. The ability to rummage, dawdle and observe what you don’t know that you don’t know is not taught in any school I attended. The classes are available however. The don’t know that you don’t knowingisworth125know domain does have boundaries however, suggesting some other infinite area holding all of it. I mean the universe is expanding [as claimed since the ‘Big Bang’] to where and what is it expanding?

People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do. – Isaac Asimov

A short aside about superstition and myth you must consider. Before anything is a myth or superstition, it was revered truth first. Black cats are unlucky is an example. Once this was really true and the myth still has power but they are just cats. Pretend for just a short while daily, that everything you see and ‘buy’ as true, is a myth or superstition that owns you. It will push you out of your comfort zone when you take on some other view or perspective. There is humor and wisdom in the exercise.

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. – Helen Keller

Until you are willing and able to change what and how you think, nothing in your life will change ‘buy’ your say so. What does is someone else’ say so.

Success Clues and Required Conditions

I have spent decades participating in MLM.

No longer however.

Everyone I know wants more money and more time to spend it on a healthier life. Given

Less than 1% of the MLM community ever does!

Less than 1% of the MLM community ever does!

what MLM offers everyone should be in one. NOT!

The three essential requirements to succeed with any MLM are you must be employed or you lose the income required to pay for the program every month.  You need a large list of a warm and hot market where you are an influencer OR you are willing to build one. The other requirement is a the five plus year commitment to see it to fruition.  Remove any of the three and failure is guaranteed. The numbers tell the tale.  I say much more here!

Goals, Past, Present, 2015

The end of the year and the beginning of a new one is the most common theme this week worldwide. What are your goals for the year ahead?  I am grateful for this last year’s lessons and successes.  I am excited for 2015.  What does the New Year hold for each of us?

What makes the difference for each of us?

You must live for another if you wish to live for yourself. – Seneca

And when overlaid with…

Life yields only to the conqueror. Never accept what can be gained by giving in. You will be living off stolen goods, and your muscles will atrophy. – Dag Hammarskjold

The clue is to hold two different thoughts in place at the same time. whoYouareNOT

I live life on vacation in paradise.  It does not occur that way for everyone and it annoys some people who believe I did not ‘earn’ it.  The conventional ‘golden rule’ is to treat others how you wish to be treated.  Even when practiced it is abuse, because it is completely wrong. Nobody wants to be treated how ‘I’ want to be treated except me. Everyone wants to be treated how they want to be treated but most have ‘given in’ to normalized behavior!

Every human being is unique: you cannot treat men and women as units in a neat scheme without doing violence to them. – Gerald Vann

Discovering how others want to be treated is mostly observation and a few questions. Along the way you may even discover what your gift is that puts you on vacation in paradise.

Realizing when you have one good hammer, everything appears to be a nail worth pounding, requires a level of discernment that can only comes after many experiments. Figuring out which experiments worked and what the ingredients were before you pounded them into the ground may take a long time and annoy many along the way.

perspective2What I have discovered is most of what’s sold as required skills, attitudes and formula essentially blame the victim for their failure.  I know life is designed to work. If it isn’t working, I am either working from the wrong design or telling a story about it that keeps it all drama. I have never bought the fear angle.  The sloth perspective needs more work.

When am I being lazy?  If my minimum daily new contact number is ten and after a week or so of fifteen plus daily I slack off to ten or even 5, am I being slothful?  We all tend to be more critical of ourselves than useful.  Others may shirk from doing anything because they can’t do my ten as easily as I am. I couldn’t in the beginning either but no one noticed, not even me.  I wish I knew how to give people the ability to ‘play’ in this sandbox no matter what happens, rain or shine.  Something about willingness is missing too often.

We all live inside a network of people.  I have managed to assemble a large group in many cognitivedisonanceplaces.  This last couple of months I have spent more time on my cold frozen market.  What I didn’t realize, even though I knew the correct answer, is it takes many more contacts to warm people up to what is possible.  It requires more of me being present.   I am in the collecting decisions business.  We make decisions based on a number of factors using one or more decision trees we have developed.   Most of what I knew before last year was how to lead someone to a decision with his or her mind.  It may be useful to know how but essentially powerless when either the heart or the gut says otherwise.  I discovered the mind was never designed to make decisions but has only been recently ‘programmed’ by schooling and advertising to run the show leaving people stuck in emotional dramas because their gut and heart is either screaming “NO” or is ignored entirely.  Much of the sales training is mind based and therefore mindless.

I am committed to discovering how to let my heart and gut rule and allow the mind to follow, consult from time to time and keep track of the statistics.  Success has always come from who I know being greater than what I know.  What I know is often a perspective limited to a single point of view I hold in the moment that always changes if I move or if I am moving, stop and pause for a moment to take another look.

One of my morning queries is ‘What is my source for being ‘notoriously’ happy today?’  The question has proven useful.  I have a minimum daily contact of ten people.   Combined with follow-ups and various other tactics in place when I keep the commitment, happiness occurs all over the place and I find myself doing more than I said.  The habit bears fruit while when doing less, plus $1.25 doesn’t buy a paper and a cup of coffee.  Funny how that works and the fruitful busy button will stay pushed without effort or trouble at ten or higher.  I am not saying the correct answer for anyone else is an MDC of ten.  You must find your number.  It is greater than zero.

endbeginning2There is another value I enjoy called effortlessness that appears at ten and higher.  I suggest effortlessness is comprised of four equal partners, integrity, responsibility, defenselessness and acceptance.  All four require more study and practice on my part and I will move into mastery of all four in 2015.   The key has been following my heart and gut in practice while ignoring the constant nattering of the minds’ ‘never good enough’ equations.

Another overlay is instead of a ‘to do’ list I have a “Doing Now List”.  That as long as I use it as designed doing today what I said I would do today is almost an automatic.

The tactic I find most useful in accomplishing everything is:

Ask until given to you.
Seek until you find.
Knock until the door opens.
[repeat]

The reasoning or strategy using any tactic comes from your purpose, goal, dream or vision of the future.  I have shared a number of my dreams and goals over the years and a successfulfew I wrote down without telling anyone.  The ones that happened with the least struggle, effortlessly were the secret ones I revealed after the fact.  Making your goals public was the method I learned first.  A Brian Tracy course suggested I needed to be less public to nearly secret about the goals until after accomplished.   A skill, like riding the bicycle, only happens in the use and experience of it.  An excellent blog post on the Six Types of Goal Setters written three years ago by Arina Nikitina is worthy of annual review.  In 2015, I will help at least 50 people produce ongoing residual income that will be greater than their expenses.   The math suggests it is possible in ten years, ten months or ten weeks.  The one variable I have no control over is you. Do you?

What is Holding Me Back?

If I am only a passenger in the vehicle thinking I am the driver, I do not have the control I believe I have. If everyone is a passenger, while an unknown driver who knows our destination is driving, what is there to worry about? If the driver doesn’t know the destination why am I a passenger? If I am in one car on a train, where people are committed to one side of the car I ride makes all the difference in our destination, as long as the view from the side I am on makes me happy, confirms my belief, all is well. When I don’t like my view of the direction we are headed I may be tempted to switch sides believing that affects our destination somehow.

perspective2The squares and circles we use as excuses, arguments, justifications and beliefs never make any difference. Plato’s shadows on the cave wall still enslave and mesmerize us, even when we suspect none of it is true. We are still stuck like crabs in a bucket. Someone will support our vision…our beliefs keeping us stuck in our perspectives.

I have been standing in the question ‘What is holding me back?’ for a long time.  Perhaps the question only gives the squares and circles keeping the ‘held back’ experience always present.

The nattering regarding time [insufficient usually], difficulties [ongoing Goldilocks sagas], readiness [starting usually] and worthiness [more insufficiencies] all happen in our minds, from an in-the-stands perspective amounting to book size justifications. School taught us to think and look for the correct answer. That is the wrong universe!!!

The latest in neuroscience and cognitive science research says…

The belief that our attitude or state of mind influences or causes the way we act is a fallacy.

The belief that our feelings or emotions influence or cause the way we act is a fallacy.

The belief that our body sensations influence or cause the way we act is a fallacy.

The belief that our decisions influence or cause the way we act is also a fallacy.

As a three year old, the one thing that impacts accomplishment is not smothered yet.whoYouareNOT

No magic buttons affect our actions. ‘Yeah, but’ at best is just a gif. The application that may work is:

Knock UNTIL the door opens
Seek UNTIL you find
Ask UNTIL you have it
REPEAT

What we see is always and all ways a function of what we believe. Until we can set aside one belief as easily as we can another, we are blind. Consider all beliefs are a lie or at best incomplete truth. Any nanomicrocosm of doubt voids the ‘whatever you want you can have’ warranty too.

Accepting what is happening, without paying causal attention to the circle or square, without judgments, without justifications is not easy or simple to acquire.  One plus one equals three and two is a lie or at best a bridge.

wonderYou do not change your reality through doing anything. … Enlightenment is not an experience. – Richard Rudd

The choice of perspective is always to live in a lie.

How do I move into the driver seat? Is it possible to get out of the train, get in front of it and lay new track while the train is moving? Is either question a possibility in this paradigm? What delusion keeps it all in place?

Sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. – Lewis Carroll

Getting rid of a delusion makes us wiser than getting hold of a truth. – Ludwig Borne

Week – #24 Masterkey Accessing Infinite Possibilities

We are at the end of this series of lessons from Haanel. I have done the ‘course’ before endbeginng3but did not engage then as I have this time. I saw it as a good read with some useful tips. School and information handling has been something I have excelled at. The first school the US Navy sent me after ‘boot camp’ was set up as a twenty-nine week course taught classroom style. I fell asleep the first hour. They don’t tell you to wake up the US Navy. They send you somewhere you do not want to go. Looking over my ‘records’ I was immediately put into the self-pace portion of the course and given five days to complete it or else. Each week had a test you were required to pass or else. Each day was twelve hours long. I did eight lessons a day and finished in four days with five wrong answers total. Haanel’s material is now accessible in the world in three days as an experience. This has been a wonderful refresher and I have had some powerful insights occur for me during the last six months. I have shared many in the past weeks and the most important was seeing how I disabled the power of my past labeling it and judging it.

This week I am focusing on commitment, especially mine and what to do next and what material to share here going forward.

Haanel writes, The fruit of this knowledge is, as it were, a gift of the Gods; it is the “truth” that makes men free, not only free from every lack and limitation, but free from sorrow, worry and care, and, is it not wonderful to realize that this law is no respecter of persons, that it makes no difference what your habit of thought may be, the way has been prepared.

alphaomega2Your perception, point of view, from where you stand and with what you believe, hold to be true, seen from that vantage point and then with that stuff sow your mind with those ‘seeds’. The manifested, generated and created results are then evaluated, judged and assessed, sometimes from an entirely different perception, point of view or stand and even using a different belief system. Humans cannot see themselves and the person in the mirror is a mirage unless you can ‘be with’ him or her in ‘now’. Generosity with and forgiving one’s self allows or limits your ability with anyone else.

1. When the scientists first put the Sun in the center of the Solar System and sent the earth spinning around it, there was immense surprise and consternation. The whole idea was self-evidently false; nothing was more certain than the movement of the Sun across the sky, and anyone could see it descend behind the western hills and sink into the sea; scholars raged and scientists rejected the idea as absurd, yet the evidence has finally carried conviction in the minds of all.

One small problem, we still say the sun moves! The next time say what a powerful, gorgeous sky as the earth and my position fall away from the sun. Try it and you just may see and experience something different. Another example, instead of calling that annual event a ‘retreat’ what would you experience from a ‘forwarding’.

3. We speak and even think of the Sun as “giving light.” Yet we know it is simply alphaomega4giving forth energy which produces vibrations in the ether at the rate of four hundred trillion a second, causing what are termed light waves, so that we know that we call light is simply a form of energy and that the only light there is, is the sensation caused in the mind by the motion of the waves. When the number increases, the light changes in color, each change in color being caused by shorter and more rapid vibrations; so that although we speak of the rose as being red, the grass as being green, or the sky as being blue, we know that the colors exist only in our minds, and are the sensations experienced by us as the result of the vibrations of light waves. When the vibrations are reduced below four hundred
trillion a second, they no longer affect us as light, but we experience the sensation of heat. It is evident, therefore, that we cannot depend upon the evidence of the senses for our information concerning the realities of things; if we did we should believe that the sun moved, that the world was flat instead of round, that the stars were bits of light instead of vast suns.

Please notice, not only your mind, but your hands, ears and eyes are not you but what you use to make ‘sense’ of it all.

4. The whole range then of the theory and practice of any system of metaphysics consists in knowing the Truth concerning yourself and the world in which you live; in knowing that in order to express harmony, you must think harmony; in order to express health you must think health; and in order to express abundance you must think abundance; to do this you must reverse the evidence of the senses.

beginnersmindMaybe and maybe the sense perceptions, viewed as good or bad, right or wrong, or the data stream we focus and concentrate our attention upon are myths. Recent proof that cause and effect are not the engine we have made them out to be suggests to me that our addiction to what we feel and believe is TRUE adjusts us to whatever we view and experience. When I changed the ‘truth’ prism, that I viewed through, everything changed. Any ‘truth’ that sets you free is worth keeping and using. Any ‘truth’ that binds you, condemns you, has you or others suffer may need to be set aside for later revaluation. The willingness and ability to endure suffering has power too. The evidence of the senses may have more to do with the language we use to describe the experience than the experience itself. Notice your experience as you sit in a chair. Feel how the chair holds you, touches you and notice the areas where it does not. Be with the experience for just a minute without ‘thinking’ about it. The ‘thinking’ is a description of the experience to your ‘self’, not the actual experience. As soon as you begin describing, even to yourself, you are no longer present in ‘now’.

8. As all conditions are thought creations and therefore entirely mental, disease and lack are simply mental conditions in which the person fails to perceive the truth; as soon as the error is removed, the condition is removed.

Find enough people to agree with your point of view and the conditions may become permanent! The nonsensical belief that my beliefs cannot hurt anyone else may be false. Perhaps we each vote and somebody else has to pay the consequences of our negativity or our indifference. The Heroes Journey has us slay a monster, a dragon of our own invention. The monster is not anyone else or anything else but our misperception of our ‘self’.

9. The method for removing this error is to go into the Silence and know the Truth; as all mind is one mind, you can do this for yourself or anyone else. If you have learned to form mental images of the conditions desired, this will be the easiest and quickest way to secure results; if not, results can be accomplished by argument, by the process of convincing yourself absolutely of the truth of your statement.

As long as you say, the sun sets in the west, the truth for you will always be an illusion.

13. If you desire to help someone, to destroy some form of lack, limitation or error, the correct method is not to think of the person whom you wish to help; the intention to help them is entirely sufficient, as this puts you in mental touch with the person. Then drive out of your own mind any belief of lack, limitation, disease, danger, difficulty or whatever the trouble might be. As soon as you have succeeded in doing this the result will have been accomplished, and the person will be free.

The power of prayer is real. The power of doubt is greater however. My favorite bible parable, found at Matt:21 and Mark:11, has the God of the Universe walk up to a fig tree, out of season, expecting figs for His breakfast. With no figs found, the tree cursed in hours becomes mere ash on the ground. His disciples want to know what he did so the tree became ash. I wanted to know how He could expect a fig tree to produce fruit out of season and pay the ultimate price for saying “NO” to Him. Clearly, the fig tree was able but unwilling. No, this isn’t a good time, the right time, my time, that isn’t the way we do it here and on and on. Fig trees hang out together too! Be careful to who, what and when you say no.

15. All thought is a form of energy, a rate of vibration, but a thought of the Truth is endbeginning6the highest rate of vibration known and consequently destroys every form of error in exactly the same way that light destroys darkness; no form of error can exist when the “Truth” appears, so that your entire mental work consists in coming into an understanding of the Truth. This will enable you to overcome every form of lack, limitation or disease of any kind.

The semantics trouble me. Light does not ‘destroy’ darkness. Technically the light came after and out of the darkness! Gen 1:2-3 and review your science notes on the Big Bang Theory. The ‘truth’ exists only in experience never as an understanding.

18. The absolute truth is that the “I” is perfect and complete; the real “I” is spiritual and can therefore never be less than perfect; it can never have any lack, limitation, or disease. The flash of genius does not have origin in the molecular motion of the brain; it is inspired by the ego, the spiritual “I” which is one with the Universal Mind, and it is our ability to recognize this Unity which is the cause of all inspiration, all genius. These results are far reaching and have effect upon generations yet to come; they are the pillars of fire which mark the path that millions follow.

This can only be ‘true’ if you are not your mind. Your minds ‘ego’, the one suggesting it is “I” is the monster dragon you need to slay!

endbeginning719. Truth is not the result of logical training or of experimentation, or even of observation; it is the product of a developed consciousness. Truth within a Caesar, manifests in a Caesar’s deportment, in his life and his action; his influence upon social forms and progress. Your life and your actions and your influence in the world will depend upon the degree of truth which you are enabled to perceive, for truth will not manifest in creeds, but in conduct.

The ‘truth’ believed, a creed, is always a lie! The truth may only be experienced and any description of truth is not the truth but merely a description. Another way to say it, ‘magic’, the joy and ecstasy experience and everything manifested only happens in “now”. As long as you place your “I” in mind, or some project in the world, or on some time line you leave ‘now’ and its experience of ‘infinite possibilities’. Right/wrong, good/bad and all the other dualistic viewpoints are outside of ‘now’. They are descriptions of past incompletion. We then use an incompletion to describe some incomplete future that becomes just more of our past unfortunately! The ability to quit judging yourself, others and anything else is one door to ‘now’. The practice of defenselessness and acceptance helps anyone find the ‘door’.

21. Our environment and the innumerable circumstances and accidents of our lives already exist in the subconscious personality which attracts to itself the mental and physical material which is congenial to its nature. Thus our future being determined from our present, and if there should be apparent injustice in any feature or phase of our personal life, we must look within for the cause, try to discover the mental fact which is responsible for the outward manifestation.

The ‘current’ present if relied upon is no more than an imperfect past, recreating itself over endbeginning4and over. The doom and gloom of a past repeated repeatedly only produces doom and gloom. Our TRUE future determined by an ‘imagined’ future and once realized calls the present to adjust and manifest that future ‘now’, not the other way round. The ‘future’ has already happened ‘now’. Now, a ‘field’ of infinite possibilities, exists always and all ways and its access require you ‘being’ available, present in ‘now’.

23. The conditions with which you meet in the world without are invariably the result of the conditions obtaining in the world within, therefore it follows with scientific accuracy that by holding the perfect ideal in mind you can bring about ideal conditions in your environment.

Maybe those ‘ideal’ conditions already are your environment and you are confused, deluded or controlled by something or someone else, not you. Where does your ‘ideal’ originate?

28. Men have, heretofore, generally used the word “God” to indicate this Universal, creative principle; but the word “God” does not convey the right meaning. Most people understand this word to mean something outside of themselves; while exactly the contrary is the fact. It is our very life. Without it we would be dead. We would cease to exist. The minute the spirit leaves the body, we are as nothing. Therefore, spirit is really, all there is of us.

Sorry, but my body, my mind, my thoughts are not me nor am I my results, my beliefs nor this world or any other world. Contrary to popular belief, I am eternal, I am my commitments and I am my word.

endbeginning229. Now, the only activity which the spirit possesses is the power to think. Therefore, thought must be creative, because spirit is creative. This creative power is impersonal and your ability to think is your ability to control it and make use of it for the benefit of yourself and others.

I realize beating a dead horse gets old but having thoughts in your mind and ‘thinking’ are nearly exclusive and different from each other. If what you call thinking is you, stop thinking that or ‘think’ something different OR notice a different thought and call ‘it’ thinking. I notice no thinking in ‘now’. When I do notice a thought, like ‘that’s a mistake’ or even a ‘positive’ judgment I am instantly out of ‘now’. Perhaps we need to spend less time thinking or having thoughts.

30. When the truth of this statement is realized, understood, and appreciated, you will have come into possession of the Master-Key, but remember that only those who are wise enough to understand, broad enough to weigh the evidence, firm enough to follow their own judgment, and strong enough to make the sacrifice exacted, may enter and partake.

Yes, everyone has the capacity, the ability and the permission to take possession of the Master-Key.

Haanel ends saying, those who find themselves in the Promised Land… have crossed the river of judgment and have arrived at the point of discrimination between the true and the false, and have found that all they ever willed or dreamed, was but a faint concept of the dazzling reality.

Yes, everyone has access to being 120% present in ‘now’ of infinite possibilities. You don’t believe that? Welcome to being a ‘fig’ tree.

Week – #20 Discipline a Path to Success

This week I am focusing on discipline. I will find more of it too. I grew up where if someone had to say it twice the consequences were felt immediately.  I learned quickly and discovered how to avoid negative attention. My childhood discipline was useful in my naval career.  The ability to follow directions, correctly, the first time was useful on board a submarine.  I am disciplined in many things and I do not suffer certain kinds of motivation well.
discipline2
Discipline is another mountain with no top. There is always more and better.

It will take years to go through the entire list of values and virtues if I only do them all once. Some of these will deserve my attentiveness more than once.  We all want to do more than just survive. We want to thrive on our own terms.  That means, when it has appeared for me, an experience of contentment both on the inside and in the world around me.  The people in my life and I agree that I have succeeded and I am happy without any disappointment, sadness or regrets present.

I have had it appear with an unsettling background of sadness however.  That ‘that’s it, that’s all’ refrain or is that part of the mountain with no top?

A person can only continue to create results that do not serve them, whether internal or discipline3external, if they are blind to how the results are created – that is, if they are creating them unconsciously.  – Bill Harris

Unconscious success may be good enough for some but not for me.  The trouble with programmed discipline is it becomes unconscious.  I have not discovered how to implement it consciously on my demand.  This is not some kind of reality and perception mismatch either.

All you have to do is know where you’re going. The answers will come to you of their own accord. – Earl Nightingale

“Of their own accord” is the part I’d like more say about.

disciplineYourSelfThe trouble I have is the ‘gap’.  It is that space between knowing what to do and then doing it.  Programmed discipline, like doing what needs doing when a fire starts in your space is very useful.  Picking up the phone and dialing for an objective loses something for me based on programmed discipline.

The ‘gap’ when closed is nearly instantaneous from knowing to action.  When it is not closed, I see myself filling it with ‘stuff’ and calling it procrastination is just lazy thinking.  Sometimes I think a bridge over the gap might work too. Only as long as it is permanent, quick and easy to accomplish but then closing the gap seems, especially from experience, the best and most effective way.  How to help others see how to get it done is part of the quest. Is that even possible or does everyone have to learn how on their own and only after they make the choice to learn?

Multiple guess and true/false teachings have taught us to eliminate far too much possibility.  I no longer believe in the tortoise and the hare choice. I suspect you need to learn both, be both, do the one that is appropriate for the conditions today.  Same for the fox and the hedgehog choice but maybe you like simple, programmed which for me is always a background of something is missing.  The other possibility is satisfaction is fleeting, temporary and a figment of the imagination.

What closes the gap today! What did it yesterday frequently no longer works today.  disiplineisbridgeInspiration and insight from yesterday work for a time, maybe even days or weeks and then they only fill it. The more I fill the gap the more difficult it is to close it. Knowing that does not seem to make a difference either.  Knowing the second I take action, close the gap, all the angst, dread or whatever is massaging the subconscious will disappear, does not make it easier to close the gap. And, sometimes that is all it takes to go into action.

Discipline yourself, and others won’t need to. – John Wooden

Right discipline consists, not in external compulsion, but in the habits of mind which lead spontaneously to desirable rather than undesirable activities. – Bertrand Russell

discipline-1Each day, and the living of it, has to be a conscious creation in which discipline and order are relieved with some play and pure foolishness. – May Sarton

Error is discipline through which we advance. – William Ellery Channing

There is no magic wand that can resolve our problems. The solution rests with our work and discipline. – Jose Eduardo Dos Santos

The great end of education is to discipline rather than to furnish the mind; to train it to the use of its own powers, rather than fill it with the accumulation of others. – Tryon Edwards

Now I also discipline myself to do things I love to do when I don’t want to do them. – Edward James Olmos

I don’t do anything the same every day. Discipline is tough for a guy who is a rebel. – Jonathan Winters

We all naturally want to become successful… we also want to take shortcuts. And it’s easy to do so, but you can never take away the effort of hard work and discipline and sacrifice. – Apolo Ohno

Any clues on discipline you can offer?

Week – #17 Expanding Your Intuition

Haanel this week is in peak form. His opening must have lost dozens in his day.  The kind of Deity which a man, consciously or unconsciously, worships, indicates the intellectual status of the worshipper.

Especially the unconscious one, in my experience, is a sign of an unexamined life.

The student who masters the contents of Part Seventeen will not mistake the symbols for the reality; he will be interested in causes, rather than effects. He will concentrate on the realities of life, and will then not be disappointed in the results.

The symbols exist in our minds, ‘in here’. The realities exist in the world ‘out here’.

1. We are told that Man has “dominion over all things”; this dominion is established through Mind. Thought is the activity which controls every principle beneath it. The highest principle by reason of its superior essence and qualities necessarily determines the circumstances, aspects and relation of everything with which it comes in contact.

How long will ‘dominion over all things’ last, another year or centuries? Where is this fossilized planet headed?  Am I open to the solution or part of the drift and flotsam?

4. Continuous concentration means an even, unbroken flow of thought and is the result of patient, persistent, persevering and well-regulated system.

The ‘system’ is you daily, patiently extending the time and clarity on that which you imagine.

6. Concentration is much misunderstood; there seems to be an concentrationidea of effort or activity associated with it, when just the contrary is necessary. The greatness of an actor lies in the fact that he forgets himself in the portrayal of his character, becoming so identified with it, that the audience is swayed by the realism of the performance. This will give you a good idea of true concentration; you should be so interested in your thought, so engrossed in your subject, as to be conscious of nothing else. Such concentration leads to intuitive perception and immediate insight into the nature of the object concentrated upon.

Focus, enraptured in your attention to the object, was our very nature before government schooling put us in desks to be quiet, attentive to nonsense and talk only when called on.  The natural ability to concentrate on a dream is for many a memory only.

To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you like everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting. – e.e. cummings

8. Desire is largely subconscious; conscious desire rarely realizes its object when the latter is out of immediate reach. Subconscious desire arouses the latent faculties of the mind, and difficult problems seem to solve themselves.

desiretochangeDesire and results are different. I am most interested in results in both ‘out here’ and ‘in here’.  My experience has the conscious mind making the connections that the subconscious throws out. The ability to remain in control, while listening to the subconscious chatter without succumbing to its alert system but noticing the good ideas it offers, if you focus, is essential. Athletes call it the zone. When you are in it, everything slows down and ultimate control is effortless.  What pulls you out of it is when you notice it.

It’s not what you say out of your mouth that determines your life, it’s what you whisper to yourself that has the most power! – Robert Kiosaki

11. Concentration does not mean mere thinking of thoughts, but the transmutation of these thoughts into practical values; the average person has no conception of the meaning of concentration. There is always the cry “to have” but never the cry “to be”; they fail to understand that they cannot have one without the other, that they must first find the “kingdom” before they can have the “things added.” Momentary enthusiasm is of no value; it is only with unbounded self-confidence that the goal is reached.

Success, or anything else, requires you “BE” successful first. When you be successful you will ‘do’ what successful people do and ‘have’ what successful people have. Any other order produces failure eventually or constant frustration. The ‘kingdom’ Haanel refers to is ‘being’.  We are human beings not human doings.  We are drawn, mesmerized how little children ‘be’ so open, happy, willing and delightful.  When does that get crushed or smothered out of us?

13. Weakness is the only barrier to mental attainment; attribute your weakness to physical limitations or mental uncertainties and try again; ease and perfection are gained by repetition.

That you notice the limitation and or uncertainties is a good thing. doNOTfeedFearQuitting because of them is not. The muscles need exercise to grow stronger. The mind is no different.  The exercise of the mind is possible while relaxed. The longer you are able to ‘let it go’ or to let your body be still while staying ‘focused’ on one vision is practice, practice and practice.  There is no top to this; there is always improvement and acceptance of your ‘self’ instead of judging the ability or performance is essential.

We simultaneously live in two worlds. We live in the infinite, ‘in here’, and we live in the finite, ‘out here’ and the rules are different in both.  Playing by ‘in here’ rules ‘out here’ cannot work any better than applying the ‘out here’ rules to ‘in here’.

17. The intensity of one moment’s earnest concentration and the intense longing to become and to attain may take you further than years of slow normal and forced effort; it will unfasten the prison bars of unbelief, weakness, impotence and self-belittlement, and you will come into a realization of the joy of overcoming.

This paragraph is like describing when you discovered balance the first time learning to ride a bicycle. This is nonsensical to anyone who has not had the experience and obvious to anyone who has.  Read it a couple of times slowly.  The ‘joy of overcoming’ once experienced is the true source of one’s power.  Some call it enlightenment.

20. All of us are dynamos, but the dynamo of itself is nothing; the mind must work the dynamo; then it is useful and its energy can be definitely concentrated. The mind is an engine whose power is undreamed; thought is an omni-working power. It is the ruler and creator of all form and all events occurring in form. Physical energy is nothing in comparison with the omnipotence of thought, because thought enables man to harness all other natural power.

“The dynamo of itself is nothing.” That is the nature of the majority is seems. Just grasping the possibility of this paragraph is a step toward “harnessing all other natural power.”  Doubting it, even the slightest, nearly eliminates the possibility from rising.

22. If you concentrate on some matter of importance, the intuitive power will be set in operation, and help will come in the nature of information which will lead to success.

Serendipity and coincidence have happened to all of us. Learning to manage and harness our intuitive power is worth any effort you can muster.

23. Intuition arrives at conclusions without the aid of serendipityexperience or memory. Intuition often solves problems that are beyond the grasp of the reasoning power. Intuition often comes with a suddenness that is startling; it reveals the truth for which we are searching, so directly that it seems to come from a higher power. Intuition can be cultivated and developed; in order to do this it must be recognized and appreciated; if the intuitive visitor is given a royal welcome when he comes, he will come again; the more cordial the welcome the more frequent his visits will become, but if he is ignored or neglected he will make his visits few and far apart.

Whatever you exercise grows stronger, where your focus goes, energy flows and results follow. What you ignore atrophies.  What you leave be, lets you be. What you resist persists.

25. Remember that fundamentally the subconscious is omnipotent; there is no limit to the things that can be done when it is given the power to act. Your degree of success is determined by the nature of your desire. If the nature of your desire is in harmony with Natural Law or the Universal Mind, it will gradually emancipate the mind and give you invincible courage.

“When given the power to act” “in harmony with Natural Law or the Universal Mind” you acquire “invincible courage”.  The subconscious that we have very little say over runs everything. Recent research suggests we only justify the subconscious minds directed behavior afterwards. Haanel is suggesting we train it to work for us instead of whomever it is working for now.  It is not ‘you’ by the way!

27. By keeping the thought in mind, it will gradually take tangible form. A definite purpose sets causes in motion which go out in the invisible world and find the material necessary to serve your purpose.

Some call this the law of attraction. Others are not as kind.  I found it before reading Haanel and I called it following breadcrumbs.  With the ‘goal’ in mind, not like a fanatical single thought but a definite purpose assigned to the subconscious to ‘look for the path’ something like ‘bread crumbs’ appear. Intuition showers you with enough clues to follow them and all the materials necessary to serve your purpose arrive on time all the time.

Believing is thinking.

If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right. – Henry Ford

34. If you wish to eliminate fear, concentrate on courage. beleive

35. If you wish to eliminate lack, concentrate on abundance.

36. If you wish to eliminate disease, concentrate on health.

37. Always concentrate on the ideal as an already existing fact; this is the germ cell, the life principle which goes forth and sets in motion those causes which guide, direct and bring about the necessary relation, which eventually manifest in form.

This is starting to get seriously interesting! Yes?

When you get to the end of all the light you know and it’s time to step into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen: either you will be given something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly. – Edward Teller
